Jimmy Butler is unlikely to be a member of the Minnesota Timberwolves for much longer, but the team isn't making it easy for themselves to move the unsettled player along.

Recent reports have stated that the Timberwolves' asking price in any trade for the point guard is too steep for some teams to cooperate with.

The Timberwolves are in search of "quality" veterans, top prospects, future assets and cap relief in any swap.

This was made clear by Minnesota's reportedly counter trade offer made to the Philadelphia 76ers in exchange for Butler.

The Ringer's Kevin O'Connor said on The Bill Simmons Podcast, via Blecher Report: 

"One of the things that I've heard from a handful of sources is that—with the Sixers for example—the initial offer that they made, the counter-offer was like, 'We need Ben Simmons in a deal.'"

It comes as no surprise then that reports have stated the Sixers have completely ruled themselves out of any deal for the Timberwolves point guard, and you can clearly see why.

While Butler has expressed his desire to be traded away, specifically to the Miami Heat, it seems as though Minnesota has no desire to get a deal done and they're looking to get the most possible in return for him.

These appear to be the actions of head coach and team president Tom Thibodeau as well, as Wolves owner Glen Taylor has expressed his desire since Butler's trade request to get a deal done as soon as possible.

As a result, Taylor might step in and demand his front office take the best deal in order to put this situation to bed, especially if more unrealistic counter offers like the one mentioned above emerge throughout training camp.

The situation could be resolved quickly as well if a team steps in and gives Minnesota an offer which they can't refuse, but this seems unlikely due to Taylor's desire to move Butler along.

The 29-year-old has also listed the Los Angeles Clippers, Brooklyn Nets, and New York Knicks as favorable landing spots.
