The arrival of several veterans at the Los Angeles Lakers this summer has meant some of the young players currently at the team have to become versatile in order to receive game time.

Kyle Kuzma showed the world last season that he was one of the steals of last year's NBA draft for the Lakers, and he's been preparing himself this offseason to become an even bigger part of the team.

Throughout the offseason and during training camp, the 6’9″ Kuzma has been working on playing at center. LeBron James will take a lot of minutes at small forward next season, so it's a good way for the 23-year-old to get game time.

As for how the training is going at center, Kuzma has said the experiment going well for him.

Kuzma said after Lakers practice on Friday to Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN: “It’s going well, you know, picking it up. I have never really played the five before. And I think it will be good for us, having a small-ball unit, getting out and running and gunning.”

Kuzma playing at center plays into LeBron's vision for the Lakers this upcoming season, being positionless.

He said, via Joey Ramirez of NBA.com: “We want to be a positionless team. There’s gonna be times when we’re all playing different positions. I think that’s going to be the benefit of our ball club.”

LeBron isn't the only player at the Lakers that is able to play in multiple positions, and the four-time MVP winner knows it.

James added: “We have a lot of guys that can play multiple positions. It’s going to work well for our team. It’s good. We just have to help rebound.”

LeBron's skill set and mindset mean he's easily able to transition between positions for his team, but it's whether or not the rest of his teammates in Los Angeles, like Kuzma, are able to do so for the team's benefit.

If they are able to do so, it could be the deciding factor that pushes the Lakers into the postseason for the first time in five years.
