This Saturday, one of the biggest stars in MMA history makes his return to the octagon in UFC when Conor McGregor takes on Khabib Nurmagomedov for the UFC lightweight championship.

The pair will headline a UFC 229 card that also features former lightweight champion Tony Ferguson, but this will be McGregor's first fight in the UFC for 23 months when he faces his Russian foe.

The Irishman was the first man in UFC history to hold two belts in the company at the same time when he defeated Eddie Alvarez for the UFC lightweight title while holding the UFC featherweight strap he had won from Jose Aldo.

Despite McGregor's worldwide fame and undoubted ability, many UFC fans point to the fact that the Notorious has never defended any title he has won in the company.

In Las Vegas this Saturday, McGregor will once again be the challenger when he faces the unbeaten Nurmagomedov, who is 26-0.

Ahead of the clash, the UFC caught up with both men at their training camps to catch their final preparations for one of the biggest fights in UFC history.

As you can see from the video below, both men are approaching it very, very differently. Nurmagomedov appears to be in the thick of things and is placing a heavy emphasis on conditioning while McGregor appears super relaxed and is simply getting some rounds in.

Can we read much into this preparation? If Nurmagomedov came out on top on Saturday, this would be strong evidence to support why that's for sure.

Speaking in the video, McGregor noted that in his money-spinning boxing match with Floyd Mayweather, he had to adjust his training and he's glad he can use his full repertoire again.

"I went around the world and that last one was like a circus, I put many of my tools back into the toolbox and left them there when I stepped into the boxing ring," he said.

"So I think many people have forgotten the skills I possess and I looking forward to going out once again and proving that I am the pound for pound best fighter on the planet."

Speaking about his opponent, McGregor said: "I see him as a dead man walking, he s*** his jocks like he always does, it's nothing new, I'm going to go in, smack him hard, bobble his head and raise that gold once again."

Nurmagomedov commented on McGregor's method of training, saying: "He is all training to fight one round, or one and a half rounds, for me it is about conditioning. I train with legends in this sport," he said.
