Manchester United remain winless in their last four games following Tuesday night's Champions League stalemate against Valencia.Jose Mourinho desperately needed three points, with his side facing Juventus next in Group H.Aside from the result, the performance of the vast majority of key players did absolutely nothing to silence rumours that the manager has lost the dressing room.Ahead of kick-off, the Portuguese claimed that "some care more than others" about the poor run of results. On the strength of their latest showing, it's hard to see much fire or spirit in that squad, though Mourinho must of course take his share of the blame for that.Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Luke Shaw - the list of players the United boss has upset in recent months is a lengthy one. However, one man who is still firmly behind him is Marouane Fellaini. The Belgian was ineffective against the La Liga outfit, constantly resorting to bringing his opponents down when he was outpaced. And yet, Mourinho ought to be pleased with the midfielder, who has come to his defence yet again by suggesting the players' pre-match huddle was a show of support for their beleaguered manager.

Fellaini explains the gesture

“Everyone is going in the same direction to try to improve and to do better,” he said, via the Mirror.

“I think we wanted to show that we are together.

“It [the huddle] was everybody’s idea. I think everybody is behind the manager. We have to do our best and do our job. We showed it today but we have to do better on Saturday.

United players rarely have a team-talk together on the pitch in full view, but desperate times, desperate measures.

United's poor form continues

Unfortunately, a show of unity is one thing, but for as long as reports of in-fighting continue and if results don't improve, it doesn't mean a great deal.

“I think it was a bad day [in Saturday's 3-1 defeat] against West Ham," Fellaini added.

"We were all bad. Today I think we showed improvement and we have to keep going.

“It was much better than West Ham. We put in energy, effort, we ran forward, we tried to score. OK, we didn’t, but we have to keep going.

“The spirit is there. You saw it today, but we have to win on Saturday.”

United face Newcastle, who have not won a game all season, up next.
