When Shawn Michaels returned to WWE television a few weeks ago to hype up the 'last time ever' match between Triple H and The Undertaker, many assumed it would be a brief showing.

Maybe an appearance at Super Show-Down would be as far as the Heartbreak Kid would go, but it seems like it's going to be much, much more than that.

As shown on Monday Night Raw this past week, the seeds have been planted for a huge tag team match between D-Generation X and the Brothers of Destruction, as Kane helped his brother lay waste to HBK and The Game.

There's much speculation now that the money of Saudi Arabia has tempted Michaels to return to the ring, over eight years after his retirement.

Many have 'retired' and came back, like Mick Foley and Ric Flair, but the WWE Universe seemed resigned to the fact Michaels was going to stick to his word, despite wanting him in the ring just one last time.

And if the rumoured tag match at Crown Jewel, and subsequent grudge match against the Deadman occurs, there are several superstars now on the main roster that could carry the icon to a brilliant match.

Mike Johnson of PWInsider has now revealed why HBK has truly returned at this time, and aside from the money aspect, it's unfortunately not for any dream matches.

"I think the return cheapens the retirement which is a shame and I’m sure the match is going to be great and when it’s over no one’s going to care," stated Johnson, per Ringside News.

"If it were up to me I’d like to see him wrestle Daniel Bryan or AJ Styles and really have a classic match, but that’s not what Shawn is trying to do here.

“Shawn is trying to fulfill his obligations. He’s not going into this looking to create the next great classic. He feels like he’s already scratched that itch.

"He feels like he’s sort of done with that time in his life and he’s gonna just be the guy who helps out the company that’s paying him a lot of money and continues to pay him a lot of money to appear.

“I don’t think Shawn is going to be the talent that they go back to over and over. I think this is going to be a one-time thing and I think it’s because he realizes this is the only time that we can probably do this and get it done right and that’s why he’s doing it.”

So fans who want to see the dream matches against Styles, Bryan, Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins and the like, you're more-than-likely never going to witness it.

Let's just all savour Michaels returning to the squared circle for one last run before he hangs up the boots - for good.
