Any doubts about whether Lionel Messi could hack playing in the Premier League were well and truly quelled on Wednesday night.

Barcelona travelled to Wembley to face Tottenham in the Champions League and by the end of the game it had turned into the Messi show.

Two goals from the Argentine following Philippe Coutinho's opener and Ivan Rakitic's volley helped Barca win 4-2 - and they were both fabulous finishes.

Messi's performance once again raised the debate of who the best player in the world is, with teammate Jordi Alba claiming he deserved to win FIFA's 'The Best' award.

"For me, 'The Best' is a lie," said the Spaniard. "[Luka] Modric is a great player, one of the best in the world.

"But Messi is like at a separate table, plays at another level. He has once again demonstrated that he is the best in the world.

"When Messi runs, the rest of us only have to grit our teeth. He is the best."

Messi's face was slapped on the front of every Spanish newspaper on Thursday morning, with Sport running the headline: "The King," and Mundo Deportivo going for: "WembLeo."

So what about Marca, who are renowned for being a pro-Real Madrid and anti-Barcelona newspaper in Spain?

Well, Messi was so good against Tottenham that even they couldn't help but admire him: "Messi: Lord and Master of Wembley."

Says it all really. Messi's genius has reached staggering new heights and there are now suggestions that he could still be in the running for the Ballon d'Or.

Modric hasn't been as influential for Real Madrid this season and Cristiano Ronaldo has struggled somewhat since joining Juventus, so there's every chance Messi could claim his sixth title.
