In case you missed it, Lionel Messi was pretty good during Barcelona’s 4-2 victory against Spurs at Wembley.Messi played a hand in Barca’s first two goals before scoring twice after half-time to round off a sensational individual performance. The plaudits came in from every angle after the match with BT Sport’s Rio Ferdinand saying: “I feel blessed that I was in this stadium live to be able to watch him.“I’ll tell my kids about it tomorrow on the school run.“This guy, what he does on the football pitch, is just ridiculous.

“It’s like he’s got a remote control in his hand, assesses the situation, and says ‘yeah, right, let me just plot the location and I’ll put the ball exactly where I want to put it, on a sixpence’".

Meanwhile, Gary Lineker tweeted: “Does anyone really genuinely think there has ever been a better footballer than Lionel Messi? I mean seriously?”

Messi may be the greatest player ever but he didn’t pick up FIFA’s ‘The Best’ award last month.

In fact, the Argentine only finished fifth being winner Luka Modric, Cristiano Ronaldo, Mohamed Salah and Kylian Mbappe.

Those that didn’t vote for Messi must have been feeling a little bit stupid after watching his display at Wembley.

And Messi’s Barcelona teammates are in doubt about who is the best player in the world.

According to Spanish outlet as, Barca players chanted "And now who is the Best?" In the dressing room after the match.

It was sung in the tune of 'Where is CR7' - a song Real Madrid players have sung previously in support of their former talisman.

Messi would have no doubt appreciated the support from his teammates.

For Messi to finish fifth in an individual award certainly caused an almighty stir in the football world and it looks even more ridiculous after Wednesday night.

One player that is still struggling to comprehend that decision is Barca left-back Jordi Alba who said that the FIFA awards are "a big lie, a farce” after the Spurs match.

We agree, Jordi.
