Loris Karius is currently on loan at Besiktas as he attempts to rediscover his form and confidence after his harrowing ordeal during last season’s Champions League final. The German goalkeeper will forever be remembered for his calamitous performance against Real Madrid in Kiev, where he cost Liverpool two precious goals. The beleaguered Karius looked bereft of confidence during pre-season - and a couple of further blunders convinced Jurgen Klopp to fork out an eye-watering £66.9 million on AS Roma’s highly-rated Brazilian goalkeeper Alisson Becker before the competitive action got underway.Having lost faith in Karius, Klopp sent the former Germany Under-21 international to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal. His recent performances had been rather encouraging. As was pointed out on this website earlier this week, clips emerged showing Karius producing some fine stops in recent fixtures against the likes of Fenerbahce and Altinordu. However, days later and Karius’s reputation has unfortunately gone from bad to worse after he made another shocking mistake while playing for Besiktas in the Europa League against Malmo.A cross took a deflection from Caner Erkin which deceived Karius, who failed to prevent the ball looping into the back of the net. Some people have attempted to defend Karius because the cross was deflected - but a top keeper really should be dealing with that by tipping it over the crossbar. This is so poor from Karius…

It’s impossible not to feel sorry for the 25-year-old because it’s just getting silly now.

Liverpool fans on social media have had plenty to say after his latest gaffe…

Only those with hearts of stone don’t want to see Karius recover from this dark period of his career.

It’s not nice watching a professional footballer endure so much in such a short space of time. The guy is only human, which shouldn’t be forgotten.

You just have to hope that everything he’s experienced during the second half of 2018 will make him a stronger person.

In any case, it’s very difficult to imagine him ever playing for Liverpool again.

This latest blunder will add further weight to the argument that he’s not cut out to play for one of Europe’s top clubs.
