Danny Welbeck was given another opportunity to impress in the Arsenal first-team against Qarabag on Thursday night.

The long trip to Azerbaijan was always going to be a difficult challenge for the Gunners, despite their opposition's lack of quality, and the final scoreline of 3-0 certainly looks more convincing than it was.

Nevertheless, Arsenal got themselves off to the perfect start in the early exchanges when Sokratis Papastathopoulos opened the scoring from close range.

Youngster Emile Smith Rowe then doubled the advantage during the second-half, finishing past Vagner da Silva with a sweet one-on-one finish.

Then it was Mateo Guendouzi's turn to bag his first goal for Arsenal, finding the far bottom corner to ensure the visitors secured all three points.

Welbeck 'average' against Qarabag

However, there was no shortage of chances for Qarabag throughout the game and Bernd Leno was arguably the Man of the Match for Arsenal with a number of key saves.

No goal for Welbeck then but it was a night to remember for Welbeck who pulled on the captain's armband after Nacho Monreal was replaced at half-time.

The Mirror gave him a solid 6/10 for his peformance and wrote: "Was delightfully average, got to be the captain in the second half, missed a sitter and was named in the England squad. The most Danny Welbeck of days."

Welbeck's physique vs Qarabag

However, for how 'delightfully average' his display was on the night, Welbeck attracted some unexpected attention from Arsenal fans after the game.

Alex Iwobi celebrated the victory with a number of dressing room videos for his Instagram story with Welbeck - captioned 'Big bro, skipper, dat guy' - being the focus of one of them.

Unexpectedly, Welbeck's physique became the biggest talking point of the clip and screenshots quickly made their way onto Twitter and Reddit.

In short, Arsenal fans were very, very impressed - check out the picture and reaction below:

It seems Welbeck has been working hard in the gym recently.

Although the Englishman is never too far from the Arsenal first-team, it seems he's putting in the work to push himself further and challenge the likes of Alexandre Lacazette and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

He's certainly showing that he has the physique to compete with some of the toughest centre-backs in the Premier League, that's for sure.

Arsenal fans are somewhat divided about Welbeck - who has scored just 31 goals across 120 outings - but he certainly can't be faulted for hard work behind the scenes.

Arsenal to beat Fulham 2-0 (11/1)*

The Gunners return to Premier League action at the weekend with Fulham and Welbeck will likely receive his next start upon the trip to Sporting Lisbon in three week's time.

For the sake of his future at the Emirates Stadium, he'll have to keep delivering the goals to match his labour in the gym.
