Ross Barkley came so close to scoring his first goal for Chelsea against Videoton on Thursday night.
Brought on as a substitute in the second-half, Barkley began the game with intent and created a number of chances for himself with penetrating runs from the midfield.
The Englishman forced goalkeeper Tomas Tujvel into an early save before striking the cross-bar with a deft header from Eden Hazard's free-kick.
Nevertheless, there was no breakthrough for Barkley who has been given far more opportunities under Maurizio Sarri this season after a tough start to life at the club.
A lack of faith from Antonio Conte and a series of injuries prevented him from getting started at Stamford Bridge and only now has the game-time began to flow.
Barkley making more appearances
However, the 24-year-old still has a lot to prove in west London and faces stiff competition from Jorginho, N'Golo Kante, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic in the Chelsea midfield.
It means Barkley needs to take every opportunity he can get to not only give Sarri some thinking to do but also to convince supporters he can make it at Chelsea.
So far, though, Barkley's performance haven't set the world alight despite showing vast improvements and it's a shame considering the amount of hard work he's delivered this summer.
As a result, Chelsea fans are somewhat divided on his future at the club and not everybody is convinced that the early season promise will translate to long-term success.
Chelsea fan's Barkley video
That's certainly the opinion of Chelsea fan and Twitter user @CarvalhoJTElite who regularly compiles videos of Blues players and, this week, he's focused on Barkley.
Taking clips from the recent games with Liverpool, he's placed Barkley's showings under the microscope and cobbled together a rather unflattering summary of showings.
It shows Barkley making key mistakes in the defensive third, giving the ball away in crucial areas and nearly costing Chelsea two goals.
Take a look at the clip below:
It certainly doesn't look good for the 24-year-old and raises questions about his ability to perform in the biggest games.
His performances against Liverpool home and away won't fill Sarri with confidence when it comes to crunch Premier League clashes in the future.
Considering how Barkley has looked over the entirety of the season, the video seems a little harsh but it remains telling against some of the toughest opposition he's faced.
Ultimately, a questionable showing versus Liverpool will always carry more weight than moments of brilliance in games with Huddersfield and PAOK.
Olivier Giroud first goalscorer vs Southampton (5/1)*
It's important to remember that Barkley has showed plenty of potential this season, though, and there's every reason to suggest he could make an impact further down the line.
Kovacic, Jorginho and Kante have proven themselves far more capable in the biggest of games but injuries and schedules will no doubt give Barkley another chance to shine.
The number of chances is another question, mind.
