A big part of Alexis Sanchez must be wishing he stayed at Arsenal right now.

It's been 10 months since he controversially swapped the Gunners for Manchester United and it's safe to say the transfer hasn't worked out.

Two goals in 17 Premier League appearances for United is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to explaining just how bad the Chilean has been.

Despite earning a staggering £500,000-per-week, Sanchez has failed to score in any competition so far this season and provided one assist.

No one seems to know what the problem is and Paul Scholes hopes United's highest-earning player is able to return to his previous form sooner rather then later.

"It's really tough," Scholes said on BBC 5Live. "We all know the qualities he's got, he's shown them at Arsenal, he's shown them at Barcelona.

"It just hasn't happened for him for one reason or another - why? I don't know. I don't know what he's doing in training or behind the scenes. We just don't know.

SCHOLES CONFUSED BY SANCHEZ

"Obviously, I thought he would bring quality to the squad. He hasn't performed yet. Whether he's fallen out with the manager - I don't know. He looks like he's trying."

Sanchez has fallen out of favour with Jose Mourinho in recent times and was reportedly slammed by his manager in front of United's players last week, which didn't go down well at all.

He started Tuesday's game against Valencia in the Champions League but was so bad Mourinho replaced him in the 76th minute.

And according to The Sun, Sanchez responded to being subbed by completely blanking Mourinho after the game. How childish and unprofessional.

Furthermore, the 29-year-old has spoken to his agent about sorting out his dire situation at United because he's had enough of Mourinho.

"He is totally fed up and at the end of his tether with Mourinho," a source close to Sanchez said. "The idea he was sold about his part in this team has not played out.

"He knows he can't leave right now but is in talks with his agent about what they can do to try and sort the situation out."

Sanchez's career at United is in turmoil, there are no two ways about it, and it's looking increasingly likely that he could leave in January after just one year at the club.

But the fact of the matter is Sanchez just hasn't been good enough and to blank Mourinho for making an important change in an important match just about sums up his selfish attitude.
