Liverpool v Manchester City is undoubtedly the biggest game of the season so far.

The Reds welcome Pep Guardiola’s juggernaut to fortress Anfield second only on goal difference to the title rivals.

Both sides remain unbeaten and will be desperate to keep that record intact when they clash horns in front of the Kop on Sunday.

For Liverpool, a win would make a real statement that they really could be capable of finally ending their painful wait for a Premier League title.

However, the Merseysider’s have stuttered a bit of late, failing to win in their last three games in all competitions.

Jurgen Klopp will be eager to put that blip behind them and the visit of the reigning champions provides the ideal opportunity to do so.

Manchester City will be expecting another hostile environment at a stadium they have failed to secure a win at since 2003.

Last season, Liverpool proved to be Guardiola’s bogey side, as the Citizens won just one of their four clashes with the Reds.

They are, however, in fantastic goalscoring form and will be quietly confident of causing Liverpool’s defence a number of headaches.

With Liverpool’s usually terrifying front trio looking a little out of touch of late, this could be City’s best chance to storm a ground that has caused them so much pain the past.

Speaking in the Mirror ahead of the titanic super Sunday clash, BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage revealed his combined Liverpool - Man City XI, and it is safe to say he considers City as favourites with only two Liverpool players making his hybrid line-up.

“It’s a 4-2-3-1 formation, based on current form and Kevin De Bruyne’s return to training for City this week,” said Savage, explaining some of his choices. See his combined XI below:

See his combined XI below:

Goalkeeper - Ederson

The Brazilian beats his compatriot Alisson to earn a place between the sticks despite being number 2 to the Liverpool ’keeper in the national set up.

Left-back - Benjamin Mendy

Andrew Robertson might have good reason to feel aggrieved after what has been a solid start to the season.

Centre-back - Vincent Kompany

It could be argued that Joe Gomez has been in better form than the City captain has this season.

Centre-back - Virgil van Dijk

Right-back - Kyle Walker

Central midfield - Fernandinho

Central midfield - Kevin De Bruyne

De Bruyne could be set to make a sensational come-back from injury a whole month ahead of schedule at Anfield and Savage believes he could quite easily pick up right where he left off.

Right-wing - Mohamed Salah

Despite his worrying dip in form, Salah finds himself as the only Liverpool player to make Savage’s midfield.

Attacking midfield - David Silva

Left-wing - Leroy Sane

Striker - Sergio Aguero

A certain Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino may have a few questions for Savage regarding his front line but based on current form, he may just be right.
