When it comes to heavyweight boxing, there are few people Kevin Johnson hasn't fought.

Ever since his championship defeat to Vitali Klitschko back in 2009, the American has devolved into something of a journeyman and has acted as a gatekeeper for some of the sport's biggest names.

What makes Johnson such a common opponent is his durability and despite having no less than 10 defeats on his record, he's only been stopped twice in 42 professional bouts.

Hence, the 39-year-old was chosen as the next opponent for up and coming talent Daniel Dubois who is seen by many as a future title contender.

It's also Johnson's first fight in the UK for sometime, and his incredible resume makes him of great interest to those in the boxing world.

Journeyman Kevin Johnson

Johnson has exchanged leather with the likes of Kubrat Pulev, Dereck Chisora,  Manuel Charr, Christian Hammer and Andy Ruiz amongst others.

Arguably the two biggest names on his record, though, are Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury against whom he was defeated in 2015 and 2012 respectively.

When asked to compare the two in the past, Johnson has remained coy but he gave a much more detailed answer this week as British fight fans weigh up a future Fury vs Joshua bout.

Johnson on Joshua vs Fury

During an interview with iFL TV, he was directly asked about the hypothetical fight and answered: "Tyson Fury has one thing that many people can't beat.

"It's not skill, Anthony Joshua is definitely the more skilful fighter, but Tyson Fury is so long and in a safety zone with that reach and movement, he made Wladimir Klitschko look like an amateur.

"He didn't do that because he has more skill, everybody knows that Klitschko would knock him out, but you've got to get past that reach.

"It's like giving somebody a sniper rifle and asking somebody 20 yards away to run up on him."

So, although Johnson didn't give an explicit predict, it certainly seems like he's leaning to Fury despite admitting that Joshua is the more skilful fighter.

It's also interesting to note that - during an interview with Boxing Social - he revealed that Joshua is far more powerful but the hardest fitter he's faced is actually Alex Leapai.

Johnson is about as qualified as boxers can get when it comes to predicting Joshua vs Fury and it seems the American can't look past the latter's boxing skills.

The former unified world champion showed his brilliant reach and finesse in the fight with Klitschko and would look to out-point Joshua in similar fashion further down the line.

Regardless of Johnson's own opinion, though, fans will get a much clearer idea when Fury slugs it out with Deontay Wilder in December.

If the 'Gypsy King' comes through, then Johnson's prediction could be put to the test very soon.
