Jose Mourinho's time at Manchester United appears to be coming to an end.

On Friday night, reports surfaced that the 55-year-old coach would be sacked regardless of the result against Newcastle.

The Red Devils host the Magpies at Old Trafford on Saturday evening, with Mourinho still expected to be in charge.

Absolutely furious with the Man United board, club legend Gary Neville produced an incredible rant on Sky Sports after being informed of the reports.

"I think it's an absolute disgrace" said Neville as he called for change above Mourinho's head. "There's something rotten to the core regarding the decisions made over the last four of five years."

Louis van Gaal was unceremoniously sacked by Man United in 2016, hours after guiding them to FA Cup glory.

The Dutch coach - who spent two years at Old Trafford - has spoken badly of the Man United board since being fired.

Supporters on social media brought up Van Gaal's comments as proof that "the club have no idea what they’re doing".

"They told me only after it was leaked out, it was the biggest disappointment of my life," Van Gaal told Dutch paper Algemeen Dagblad in 2017.

"United put my head in a noose and I was publicly placed on the gallows.

"The pressure was enormous with my head in the noose and they went right behind my back.

"I think it was all orchestrated like a film and it was done very much behind my back right from January."

"United did not discuss this with me. If they had come to me with the Mourinho plan then I could have said 'OK, let's give it everything for the last six months, complete commitment to each other and the team and then Jose Mourinho can take over'," he added.

"They could have saved the last year of my salary by doing that but after what happened I made them pay every penny."

In March 2018, Van Gaal took aim at Ed Woodward.

"I am not disappointed with Jose Mourinho. Every coach wants to train Manchester United, it's one of the biggest clubs in the world," Van Gaal told Sport Bild.

“What I find wrong is when a CEO says we're totally happy with you, do not believe the press.

"Then you win the FA Cup and still be fired."

Since becoming Man United's CEO in 2012, Woodward has certainly done a good job from a financial perspective.

But it's growing increasingly clear that he is a business man and not a football man.
