Dillian Whyte didn't waste any time in responding to the surprising callout from Luis Ortiz on Friday.Whyte, who is currently at a crossroads over his next fight, has been linked with facing the veteran Cuban but looked more likely to face Dereck Chisora until Ortiz specifically called him out for a potential clash on the Deontay Wilder v Tyson Fury undercard."There is a spot open on this Wilder-Fury card so why don’t you strap your nuts on and come face me so I can show you a good ass whooping son," Ortiz said in an interview with Boxing Scene. After seeing the comments, Whyte took to Twitter to issue a brief response and made an offer for December 22."We can go Dec 22," Whyte tweeted.

But as many boxing fans know, it's not quite as simple as that for a fight to be agreed and the focus of attention quickly switched to Whyte's promoter, Eddie Hearn, to see what likelihood of a deal being agreed was.

In an interview with iFL TV, Hearn revealed he was already in talks with Ortiz's team in regards to another fight when the Whyte tweet was posted, however, he would be up for speaking to them about a possible fight with Whyte on December 22.

"I spoke to Ortiz's people early, not even about the Dillian Whyte fight, but I'd love to make the Ortiz fight for December 22," Hearn said.

If a Whyte-Ortiz fight is something to get excited about, then you shouldn't just yet as Hearn did make it clear that a rematch with Chisora remains the priority fight for Whyte at this moment in time.

An agreement is still trying to be made for a Whyte-Chisora rematch, but if such deal can't be made then Hearn has said that the Ortiz fight for December 22 will certainly be next on the list for Whyte.

"If Chisora don't want to fight or a deal can't be done then, he's ready. If Luis Ortiz really wants the fight then let's do it. A WBC eliminator, a great fight."

Ultimately, the decision will need to come within the next week to give both fighters enough time to prepare so time is of the essence.
