Rumours are circling that Jose Mourinho could be sacked by Manchester United in the coming days. The Mirror reported on Friday night that Mourinho would lose his job regardless of whether the Red Devils overcame Newcastle United, prompting the club into a swift response.Senior sources at Old Trafford were quick to brand the report 'nonsense' and the rumoured meeting with Jorge Mendes was believed to concern David de Gea as opposed to Mourinho.Nevertheless, the journalist who broke the story has noted that United behaved similarly before they sacked David Moyes and Louis van Gaal over the last four years. It's impossible to tell what the United hierarchy is really thinking behind the scenes, but you get the impression that Mourinho simply must deliver victory over Newcastle.

Mourinho's job at risk

Besides, fans are becoming increasingly tired of their club's negative style of football, the fall-outs being caused by Mourinho and the lack of backing in the transfer window.

While the supporters will no doubt give their manager a full backing on Saturday afternoon, there is a growing population of fans who want to see him leave.

It's an interesting debate and one that's sparked a variety of opinions with everybody from Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Paul Merson wading into the argument.

Journalist's tweet sparks debate

However, the debate is no more alive than on Twitter with fans and journalists constantly interacting about the latest Mourinho news.

In amongst all the popular tweets, though, the reaction of Evening Standard writer James Robson has attracted more attention than most and has clocked nearly 3,000 'likes.'

That goes to show plenty of fans agree, but there are also plenty who are wagging their fingers in the comments and it's a pretty divisive tweet.

Robson argues that Mourinho hasn't been backed in the final stage of his hunt for the Premier League title and United should have acted like Liverpool. Check out the tweet and debate below:

It's intriguing to see how many journalists and pundits have actually blamed people and factors other than Mourinho.

Despite all the speculation about his mishandling of the squad and outdated tactics, there is a large group that believe both the players and board have seriously let him down.

There has certainly been evidence of a lack of effort from the players this season and considering the Red Devils finished second last year, more investment was certainly needed.

Fred was the only main signing with Diogo Dalot proving one for the future and Lee Grant helping to boost the club's homegrown quota.

Lukaku to score two or more vs Newcastle (9/2)*

Nevertheless, you have to wonder why United - even with their lack of investment - are doing as poorly as they are with quality players such as Paul Pogba and Alexis Sanchez.

Only those walking through Old Trafford and Carrington every day truly know and, like it or not, it's their opinion that counts.
