UFC 229 was built up to be the greatest night in the history of mixed martial arts, with Conor McGregor making a comeback after a two-year absence and challenging Khabib Nurmagomedov for the lightweight title. The packed crowd of 20,000 inside the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as well as millions watching across the globe witnessed a grand event on the night, until chaos ensued immediately after the conclusion of the main event.Khabib looked completely in control of proceedings right from round one with McGregor needing to showcase his defensive skills early on, which to some extent he did immaculately. But, it was in the fourth round when the Russian ace managed to grab the former two-division champion by the neck that forced McGregor to tap out.Referee Herb Dean indicated the end of the fight, but, things did not come to a close there.Khabib headed towards the McGregor corner, pointing towards Dillon Danis and to everyone’s surprise, jumped the cage to spark a melee in the crowd. In the meantime, members of the Nurmagomedov camp entered the Octagon and one person started landing blows on McGregor when he was not looking. It was absolute chaos at the scene as security personnel and police intervened to bring order inside the arena.UFC chief Dana White later commended the heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and former middleweight title holder Luke Rockhold for their attempt to neutralise the scenario at that time.Cormier later took to social media to express his views on the turn of events. The 39-year-old tweeted: “Hey guys, two wrongs don’t make it right. Conor didn’t deserve that. No one did. But some things aren’t for fight promotion. Religion, family, country. Throwing stuff in Brooklyn. For Khabib it wasn’t fight promotion, it was really personal. Diff culture man. Sucks.“Conor didn’t press charges , that tells me that he understands look I don’t like him he doesn’t like me shit happens. Kinda gangster shit by Conor. He showed lot of heart tonight! Crazy night. Wish we were talking bout the fight.”

The night of October 6 in Las Vegas surely must have gone to Khabib’s name, but it’s definitely not the end of the showdown between two giants of combat sport.
