There was plenty of hype surrounding Liverpool’s clash with Manchester City on Sunday but the 90 minutes failed to live up to the hype.It was almost unimaginable that the two title favourites would play out a drab 0-0 draw. But that’s exactly what happened at Anfield. The two sides had maybe too much respect for each other and appeared to adopt a ‘must not lose’ attitude, rather than a ‘must win’ mindset.City were handed a glorious opportunity to pick up their first win since 2003 when they were awarded a penalty in the final minutes. However, Riyad Mahrez blazed his spot-kick over - a penalty that summed up the entire match. It wasn’t the sort of performance we’ve come to expect from Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp, especially when playing at home. But it was definitely an improvement on their display against Napoli in midweek, where they lost 1-0.Against City, there were a couple of decent individual performances with centre-backs Virgil van Dijk and Dejan Lovren both performing well, while Jordan Henderson was also praised.Liverpool Echo’s James Pearce tweeted: “Thought Jordan Henderson was Liverpool's man of the match. Real captain's performance today.”But many Liverpool fans disagreed.Instead, they found themselves agreeing with Craig Bellamy in the Sky Sports studio.

“I’m a big fan of Henderson but, at times, he looks to get it too deep,” Bellamy said.

“He needs to play the other side of the [opposition] forwards. And I just think he’s too keen to go back, too keen to go sideways.

“And that’s where you look at Jorginho at Chelsea, who’s able to create and also move men away to allow one of the centre-backs to step in. And that’s a way to outnumber teams.”

LIVERPOOL FANS TOTALLY AGREED

And Liverpool fans on Twitter believe Bellamy was speaking nothing but sense about their captain.

Poor Hendo.
