Conor McGregor may have to wait for the opportunity to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov again. The UFC lightweight champion is facing a suspension following his actions after their clash at UFC 229.After forcing McGregor to submit in the fourth round, Nurmagomedov set about exacting revenge on the Irishman’s teammate, Dillon Danis, for provoking him before and during the fight. He leapt out of the cage and lunged at Danis in a scene which will go down in UFC history.Such actions were always going to lead to consequences and a suspension is now possible.Nurmagomedov returned to the Octagon and asked UFC president Dana White for his belt.White refused to hand it over, though, saying: "If I put this belt on you, people will lose their shit and start throwing stuff in the Octagon. Other people will get hurt."

Rockhold spoke to Khabib

Emotions were flying and Daniel Cormier and Luke Rockhold, Nurmagomedov’s teammates, did a great job calming the 27-0 star down.

Rockhold, the former UFC middleweight champion, has revealed what he said to Nurmagomedov after he returned to the Octagon.

“Khabib came back in the cage and I grabbed him, tried to calm him down and get the situation under control,” Rockhold said on Ariel Helwani’s ESPN show.

"I was just trying to bring him back down to earth and make him realise he's the champ, baddest man on the planet.

“'You're the f***ing man so just relax, enjoy the moment.’”

If only Rockhold had got to Nurmagomedov quicker.

McGregor took to Twitter after the fight to state his desire for a rematch but Nurmagomedov’s demands are pretty hefty.

According to Rockhold, the 30-year-old wants a record purse to entertain McGregor once again.

"If the people are going to buy into a rematch, they're going to have to pay Khabib. Probably the biggest pay cheque in the history of MMA,” the American added.

"I've talked with Khabib. You want a rematch, Khabib will demand a record number."

Sounds like a man who knows just how big beating McGregor is for his career.
