Things escalated very, very quickly after Khabib Nurmagomedov's victory over Conor McGregor last weekend.

In a brilliant display of grappling, Nurmagomedov scored a submission win during the fourth round having become the first fighter to knockdown McGregor and the second to defeat him in the UFC.

However, what happened after the fight cast a shadow over the event with Nurmagomedov shockingly leaping over the octagon and jumping right into McGregor's team.

The fracas was believed to be caused by a confrontation with Dillon Danis, although reports about the exact cause of the incident remain foggy.

What's more, members of the Nurmagomedov team then decided to infiltrate the cage, attacking McGregor with the second assailant striking him on the back of the head.

Drama after Khabib vs McGregor

The episode caused security worries throughout the stadium and led UFC President Dana White to decide against placing the lightweight belt around Nurmagomedov.

A large contingent of McGregor fans had traveled to Las Vegas and there were concerns that projectiles would be thrown into the octagon if the Russian was heralded.

Not only that, but a large security contingent was called upon to escort the victor out of the stadium with a number of fans shouting abuse at him and throwing cups of beer from above.

Nurmagomedov taunted McGregor fans

It was inevitable that McGregor fans were going to express their anger at Nurmagomedov for his lack of sportsmanship after the win and his terrible decision to jump into the crowd.

And while the behaviour of the supporters cannot be justified, it seems Nurmagomedov himself played a role in directly aggravating the crowd.

Footage has emerged of the 30-year-old taunting McGregor fans as he's taken away from the octagon, encouraging them to come forward and confront him.

The video clearly shows Nurmagomedov shouting: "Come Irish people, come here. Come, come get it!"

Poor from the Russian and it's clear emotions were still running high at the time. Check out the video down below:

Considering there were fears for his wellbeing anyway, it certainly wasn't wise of Nurmagomedov to essentially encourage the Irish fans to give him what they've got.

Thankfully for the event, Nurmagomedov managed to avoid any projectiles until the very last moment when a series of objects - mainly beer cups - were thrown down on him.

The last thing Dana White and co. needed after all the post-fight drama was an incident between a big-name fighter and some of the travelling fans.

It's yet to be decided what will happen to both fighters but it's accepted that Nurmagomedov will receive a tough punishment and could be barred from future fights in America.

Saying he lost his head would be quite the understatement and everyone from McGregor, his team and his supporters were the target.
