One of the most anticipated events in UFC history ended in explosive fashion over the weekend as Conor McGregor was defeated by Khabib Nurmagomedov in Las Vegas.

McGregor was beaten for only the fourth time when he tapped out in the fourth round following Nurmagomedov administering a rear-naked choke.

The box office viewing continued well after the bell, however, as Nurmagomedov vaulted the Octagon cage into the crowd to confront members of McGregor's team.

One camera angle has shown that members of the Russian's entourage leapt into the ring to try and get to McGregor, with Zubaira Tukhugov attacking the Irish fighter from behind.

Now, the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC), who sanctioned the bout, has confirmed that McGregor is suspended from fighting until November 6, with no contact until October 28, which is a routine medical precaution in UFC.

The bad blood between the fighters and the two teams is clearly not finished, and now, GiveMeSport have asked should McGregor seek a rematch against the Russian, or would it be better for the Irishman to settle his record against Nate Diaz.

Diaz and McGregor are currently tied at one win apiece and last met in 2016 when McGregor walked away with a decision and what was the highest purse in UFC history.

GiveMeSport asked fans via a Facebook poll, "Who should Conor McGregor fight next?," with the options of a "Khabib "the Eagle" Nurmagomedov rematch", or a "Nate Diaz trilogy decider".

With the poll just wrapping up, and with 85.1k fans having voted, the results are in.

A whopping 64% of UFC fans want to see a Nurmagomedov rematch, while only 36% want to see a decider in the Diaz/McGregor trilogy.

There are still clearly issues to be settled between McGregor and Nurmagomedov and any rematch would undoubtedly be explosive, but the controlled way in which the Russian defeated McGregor might suggest that a re-run would be unwise for the Irishman.

As for the potential Diaz match-up, many fans are suggesting that the American would be wise to take the initiative and fight Nurmagomedov himself and avoid a tricky deciding bout with McGregor.
