For a second, let’s ignore what happened outside the cage at UFC 229.

Khabib Nurmagomedov made it 27-0-0 with a dominant performance against Conor McGregor, eventually winning in the fourth round with a rear-naked choke forcing a submission.

The Russian has eventually got his hands on the UFC lightweight belt which he was unable to be awarded in the octagon after his victory due to his behaviour.

However, Khabib’s decision to jump out of the cage to attack McGregor’s teammate, Dillon Danis, may see him stripped of his belt and handed a lengthy suspension.

UFC president came out immediately after the fight to admit Khabib could be severely punished.

“We’ll see,” White said when asked about the prospect of Khabib being stripped of the title.

“The NSAC is going to hand down some type of fine or suspension, we’ll see. I don’t know. If he gets suspended, it depends how long it is but yeah he will probably get stripped if it’s a long suspension.”

Investigations are already underway and we’re not quite sure how long Khabib will be suspended for.

But he’ll be back eventually.

And who will he be eyeing up when he makes his return?

Of course, a rematch with McGregor could be on the cards - at least that’s what The Notorious wants.

But even before he fought with McGregor, Khabib’s father revealed his son’s next four fights.

“I want next opponents: Conor, Tony Ferguson, Georges St-Pierre and the champion in welterweight,” Abdulmanap said.

One down, three to go.

Khabib has already beaten McGregor and, if he goes on to beat Ferguson, St-Pierre and, possibly, Tyron Woodley, that would surely confirm The Eagle as the G.O.A.T.

He could then retire with a perfect 40-0-0 record.
