Hartlepool midfielder Jon-Andre Fredriksen has had his contract at the club cancelled by mutual consent.

The 28-year-old Norwegian, who joined United from Norwegian second-tier side Sarpsborg in July 2009, was a first-team regular at the start of the 2009/10 season making 14 league and cup appearances.

However in 2010 his first-team opportunities have been limited and he made only two appearances this season in the Carling Cup win over Sheffield United and the away league success at Yeovil both as a second-half substitute.

On his time with the Pools, Fredriksen told the club's official website: "I have been here for one and a half seasons now and sometimes you have to think about your career. When you haven't played for a while and that is why you came over you have to sometimes move on."

He added: "I had a great time here in Hartlepool, it has been a very good experience."
