Plenty of fans were excited when Bobby Lashley showed up the night after WrestleMania this year after 10 years away from the company.
The man who once represented now U.S. President Donald Trump at WrestleMania made quite the name for himself in TNA and fighting in MMA.
Now 42, Lashley has returned to the WWE and looks in better shape ever, if that was humanly possible.
Unfortunately, things haven't really clicked for the former ECW champion and he's failed to make a significant mark since his return.
Feuds with Sami Zayn, Kevin Owens and even Roman Reigns failed to yield the desired results and there has been reports that Lashley is frustrated that the WWE will not pair him with Brock Lesnar.
However, now that he has been paired with the pint-sized cruiserweight Lio Rush as his manager, Lashley looks to have turned heel.
According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer, the decision to turn Lashley and Rush heel was made the day of the show. The idea was that with Kevin Owens being written off television, there would be an open spot for a top heel and the argument was that Lashley has badly needed the turn.
Meltzer added that Rush has been using an IFB earpiece so Vince McMahon can personally feed him lines with one source noting that every line was fed by Vince. That includes Rush continually asking the crowd to chant "Lash-Ley!"
In truth, Rush is a natural heel and has a very grating persona, as evidenced on the last episode of Raw. For Lashley, it might be more of an uphill task but with his size and power, a mean streak is more than welcome.
Whether it can get Lashley to world title contention like he hopes, that remains a different question. But, there's no doubt that fans appreciate the switch-up and it was badly needed.
