The Premier League season has got off to a pretty enthralling start.

After eight rounds of fixtures, the top five teams are separated by just two points, with Manchester City leading the way on goal difference.

Liverpool and Chelsea are level on points with 20, while Tottenham and Arsenal are both on 18.

At the bottom of the table, bottom three teams Newcastle, Cardiff and Huddersfield are all without a win and look the favourites to drop down to the Championship.

As for surprise packages, Bournemouth have really showed everyone they're an established Premier League outfit these days, sitting sixth with five wins to their name.

But which players have been impressing the most so far in 2018/19? Well, WhoScored have provided the data for the best statistical XI of the season so far.

Yes, Eden Hazard does make the cut, but there are a few surprises in there.

THE PREMER LEAGUE'S BEST SO FAR

Not a single player from Liverpool, Tottenham or Manchester United make the cut - Bournemouth are also unlucky not to have any representatives.

Petr Cech's inclusion is probably the biggest surprise in the team, with James Tarkowski a close second.

Liverpool's defensive duo of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk can fill harshly done by not to be included in either Tarkowski or Harry Maguire's place.

The rest of the team seems pretty fair though, with Raheem Sterling, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Sergio Aguero and Alexandre Lacazette all in great goal scoring form.

It will be interesting to see how many of those players in the XI keep their place come the end of the season.

When the Premier League action returns next weekend, there are some real mouthwatering fixtures for fans.

Chelsea welcome Manchester United to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, before Arsenal host Leicester on the Monday Night Football.
