Sport can be very cruel sometimes, and it does not matter if you are a sprinter, a golfer, a footballer, or any other sports player in between, when a situation happens which does not quite go your way, you can feel hard done by.

With that said, we have all been in that very same boat at some point in our sporting lives, so we can all understand what that person is going through when it happens to them, and most of us tend to show a little bit of compassion towards them, after all, sportsmanly conduct is something most of us can be proud of.

So, when watching the recent European Champions Cup game between Glasgow and Saracens, it was interesting to see one such situation come up and how these professional rugby stars react to such a moment.

Saracens were leading by 10 points when Glasgow managed to break away and scramble across the line for a try which they thought would get them back in the game, before realising that the referee had already blown up for a penalty before the try was scored, leading to a little bit of embarrassment for the team.

However, it was the actions of Saracens star Maro Itoje which got most people talking, with the player deciding to mock the celebrations of those embarrassed Glasgow players, rather than being sporting about what had just happened.

Maro clearly knew that the whistle had already been blown and that the try would not stand, so he mockingly joined in with the celebrations of the Glasgow players.

This has led to a split opinion among the rugby fans, with some fans feeling that Maro was just having a bit of fun and meant no harm by it, while others felt that he was being unprofessional and disrespectful to his fellow pros.

Some of the disgruntled fans felt that Maro Itoje should have been punished for his behaviour, with some suggesting that a sending off should have been issued, while others went as far as to call for the player to be banned.

Sportsmanship is a huge part of rugby and Maro Itoje was definitely being unsporting, but should it just be seen as a bit of fun or does the player deserve some extra punishment?

Let us know your thoughts.
