Marcus Rashford won’t have enjoyed watching back his performance in England’s 0-0 draw against Croatia on Friday. The Manchester United striker missed two clear chances to score as his difficult start to the 2018-19 season continued.Rashford has failed to cement a place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up at Old Trafford and his performance against Croatia won’t have done him any favours in Gareth Southgate’s book.It was in 2016 when Rashford burst onto the scene. Great things were expected of him when he scored a brace on his debut against FC Midtjylland and followed that up with two goals against Arsenal.More than two years on, and any development has only been minimal. He isn’t deemed worthy of a starting spot at Man United, making only two starts in the Premier League this season.Rashford is still only 20-years-old but the hype surrounding him is quickly subsiding.

Jones: Rashford has levelled out

His recent form has left Vinnie Jones, who once had high hopes for Rashford, pretty disheartened.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Jones said Rashford’s teammates will be growing weary of the young striker as he continues to squander goalscoring opportunities.

“You cannot keep missing like he’s missing, you’ve got to start putting these in the back of the onion bag,” the former Premier League player said.

“The players are going to start taking the mickey. Wimbledon, Chelsea, those squads, we would have started taking the mickey by now.

“When Rashford came on the scene I thought he was going to be the real deal. But he seems to have levelled out.”

Jones continued: “Players will be getting irritated. There was a good win on the table there against Croatia and he never took one of the chances.

“If I was a player, I’d be getting wound up about it.”

Jones was a no-nonsense player who wouldn’t care about bruising the ego of a young teammate.

And perhaps his strong words are just what Rashford needs to hear.
