Rooney's tweet in 2011

Things change quickly in football. It was seven years ago that Man United were celebrating a record-breaking 19th league title.

The 2010-11 title was sealed with a 1-1 draw against Blackburn Rovers, with Wayne Rooney scoring an equaliser to secure the crown.

Rooney's penalty

And the forward, a childhood Everton fan, couldn’t wait to mock Liverpool as the celebrations started, even if his message didn’t make complete sense.

He wrote on Twitter: “A scouser knocks Liverpool of there perch. Haha. An evertoniian aswell.

“Yes. People. U can't imagine how happy I am tonight. Believe”.

Another tweet quickly followed. It's baffling.

A photo also emerged showing Rooney had shaved the number ’19’ into his chest hair.

Brilliant.

Man United went on to add a 20th title in 2013, Ferguson’s final season at the club.

But the years since have been rather miserable, with David Moyes, Louis van Gaal and Mourinho all failing to bring the same level of success that Ferguson achieved.

It’s not been particularly easy for Liverpool, either. They suffered heartache at the end of the 2013-14 season, when it looked for all the world that they would win the Premier League for the first time.

But there is a great sense of optimism surrounding the club these days. A 19th league title could soon be on the way.
