Sam Allardyce has caused quite a commotion with his comments about Eric Dier and Sergio Busquets following England's 3-2 win over Spain on Monday.According to the former England boss, who managed just one game for the national team in 2016, Busquets is "no better than" Dier. That's despite Busquets being widely regarded as one of the world's best holding midfield players for Barcelona and Spain.Dier is a decent holding midfield player in his own right, but hardly anyone would agree that the Tottenham man is on par with the Spaniard."The praise about Busquets must be stopped, it was never evident last night, he looked out of sorts," said Allardyce on talkSPORT. "He's no better or worse then Dier, for me."Busquets is a sitting midfield player who breaks up play, intercepts, passes it very quickly and is intelligent. That's what he is."He's not much more than that, but he gets a lot of praise for it. Whereas Dier does a similar job, but sometimes gets loads of criticism for it.

ON YOUR OWN, SAM

"He (Dier) has got the capability of being that. Busquets has been a great player for Spain and Barcelona, don't get me wrong.

"He's a very effective player and is the first pick for every manager because he plays such a simple game.

"But we laud him as a genius, whereas our own we don't, we criticise. Dier was far better than Busquets last night."

Allardyce's comments have received a lot of attention and now even Rio Ferdinand has reacted on Twitter by dropping the brutal truth.

Ferdinand reckons Allardyce is talking absolute nonsense and that even Dier will feel embarrassed by the comparison.

"Come on Big Sam!" wrote Ferdinand. "Busquets has been the best holding midfielder for years and been an integral part in [Barcelona and] Spain's most successful periods.

"'He's no better than Eric Dier' 🙈🙈🙈🙈. With all due respect [Dier] himself would be embarrassed with that comment!"

Well, he's not wrong. Busquets has won everything there is to possibly win with Barcelona and Spain, so unfortunately for Dier there's just no comparing them at this stage.

Hopefully Dier feels more honoured than embarrassed to have been spoken about in the same breath as the 30-year-old, though.
