When Georges St-Pierre vacated his UFC Welterweight championship in 2013 after holding it for nearly six years, no-one knew if he would ever return to the sport.

But after battling a series of injuries, the Canadian returned to dethrone Michael Bisping and capture the Middleweight belt in November 2017.

His reign didn't last for long though, and a month later GSP decided to vacate the title due to suffering from Ulcerative colitis, stating he 'didn't want to hold up the division'.

It didn't stop stars from across the sport from calling him out though, most notably Khabib Nurmagomedov, who wanted GSP as his first title defence after claiming the Lightweight gold at UFC 223 in Brooklyn.

The UFC tried to get St-Pierre to fight Nate Diaz at UFC 227 in June, but GSP declined the offer, and this week revealed that only one man would interest him in coming back to MMA right now - and that is 'The Eagle'.

St-Pierre appeared on Ariel Helwani's MMA Show this week, and when quizzed on potentially facing Nurmagomedov, GSP responded:  “I always say that the thing that excites me the most is when I could be the first to do something, you know?

"When something can’t be done and people doubt me or say it’s impossible to do or you can never do it.

“He’s a great champion and in terms of legacy. I can’t think of a better man, a fighter right now who has a better legacy than Khabib in terms of popularity and legacy.

“If you look at the real fighters, not only as to who sells the most, but in terms of who’s the real pound-for-pound fighter, I think he ranks right up there.”

Despite adding that he's not sure if he would ever return to the octagon, and Dana White not being interested in him coming back for big-money fights then leaving again, it's surely something that would entice GSP should the circumstances be right.

And with Khabib cementing his legacy with his destruction of McGregor, and St-Pierre being a proven draw when it comes to pay-per-views, the UFC would stand to make a hell of a lot of money from the two squaring off.
