Neymar's move to Paris Saint-Germain back in the summer of 2017 stunned the footballing world.

The Brazilian superstar more-than-doubled the previous record of £89m paid by Manchester United for Paul Pogba, moving to France for £198m.

Since his arrival, Neymar has made Ligue 1 his own, scoring 19 goals and recording 13 assists in just 20 matches in 2017/18.

A serious foot injury ended his season prematurely, but he's started 2018/19 with eight goals and three assists in just eight games.

So far, he's been well worth the investment.

However, ever since his move rumours have constantly linked him with a switch to either Real Madrid or back to Barcelona.

The general consensus has been that while the two Spanish giants may want him, the financial muscle needed to sign him would be astronomical.

In the normal transfer climate, either would have to pay way more than the £198m PSG spent.

But there appears to be a loophole that would allow either Real Madrid or Barca - or any other team - to get Neymar for around £190m.

Spanish publication Sport have revealed that there is an 'escape clause' in Neymar's contract that allows him to leave in his third season for a reduced fee.

The amount is agreed at €215m, but it will only come in to play in the summer of 2020 when Neymar will be 28.

Theoretically, Neymar could just be entering his peak years when the clause is able to be activated, making that price tag look a lot more appealing.

For Real Madrid, they might not be able to wait nearly two years to sign a player of Neymar's calibre given their woeful start to the season under Julen Lopetegui.

As for Barca, they have Philippe Coutinho, Ousmane Dembele and Malcom already on their books fighting for similar attacking roles.

Bringing Neymar back and condemning all three to the bench at the cost of £190m may not be worth it.
