Dunne own goal gives Black Cats win

Richard Dunne's own goal handed Sunderland just their second Barclays Premier League victory of the season as the Black Cats claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Aston Villa.

The Republic of Ireland defender turned Steed Malbranque's 25th-minute cross past goalkeeper Brad Friedel, who pulled off a fine save to deny Danny Welbeck a second goal two minutes later.

Villa, who lost 6-0 at Newcastle in August, hit the post through Stewart Downing and saw Emile Heskey miskick with the goal at his mercy as the game slipped away as Villa suffered another disappointing day in the north-east.
