Before UFC 229, not many in the world of MMA would have recognised the name Ali Abdelaziz.Long time fans of the sport will acknowledge Abdelaziz’s work with the likes of former UFC world champions Frankie Edgar and Rashad Evans, along with reigning lightweight ruler Khabib Nurmagomedov. During the build up to Nurmagomedov’s most recent contest, the main-event of UFC 229 against Conor McGregor, ‘The Notorious’ took aim at the manager. McGregor exploited the past of the once FBI informant Abdelaziz, and declared war on all of Nurmagomedov’s team. The Irishman was however defeated in four rounds, as Nurmagomedov chocked out his opponent on the way to defending his UFC lightweight world title for the first time. Shortly after the Russian’s win, Nurmagomedov called out former five-weight boxing world champion Floyd Mayweather to a fight, declaring, “Because in the jungle, only one king.” This wouldn’t be the first time Mayweather has shared the ring with a UFC champion, following his August 2017 stoppage win against McGregor, a bout that landed the American an estimated $300 million. Nurmagomedov claimed in his call out video of Mayweather that he is the king because he did what Mayweather failed to do, and that was drop McGregor. ‘The Eagle’ dropped McGregor with a sweeping overhand right in the second round of their fight, whereas Mayweather couldn’t floor the Irishman on the way to his 10th round stoppage win. “Of course, I am the king because he cannot drop McGregor but I drop him easily,” Nurmagomedov said. And Abdelaziz echoed his clients theory, and even claimed Nurmagomedov could drop Mayweather if they were to fight, but conceded he isn’t sure whether the UFC champion could finish the fight. “(Floyd) can’t make Khabib tired, we already know that,” Ali Abdelaziz told ESPN’s Brett Okamoto.

“I know it’s a different sport, but Khabib knocked Conor down. Floyd couldn’t. And all it’s gonna take is one punch, and I think Khabib can drop Floyd.

“I don’t know if he can finish him or not, but I know he can drop him if he landed, because he is too small.”
