Chelsea scored a late equaliser

Anthony Martial appeared to have given the Red Devils all three points with a superb brace.

But Barkley smashed the ball home in injury time as a thrilling affair ended in a draw.

The match was overshadowed by an incident in the closing stages, with Mourinho reacting badly after being goaded by Chelsea coach Marco Ianni.

But in terms of what it means for the Premier League, Man United missed the chance to gain ground on the leaders.

And that has delighted former Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.

Balotelli reacts on Instagram

Balotelli, now playing in France for Nice, has mocked Man United fans on Instagram.

“Manchester utd fans.. LOL 😂,” he wrote.

He also made not of his allegiance to his former team by writing: “Come city always”.

Man City can go nine points ahead of their neighbours with a win over Burnley in the 3pm kick-off.

For Mourinho, he will sense this was a missed opportunity.

His side performed brilliantly in the second half and were on the verge of their best result of the season so far.

It was also a chance to relieve some of the pressure that recent results have left him under.

“We were the best team on the pitch,” the Portuguese coach remarked after the match.
