Having not featured for Argentina during the international break, Lionel Messi was as fresh as a daisy for Barcelona's clash with Sevilla on Saturday night.

The 31-year-old received the La Liga Player of the Month award for September before getting to work against one of his favourite opponents.

With just two minutes on the clock, Messi played an outstanding through ball to assist Philippe Coutinho, who produced a superb first-time finish.

Then, in typical Messi fashion, he raced towards Sevilla's backline before dipping onto his left foot and beautifully finding the bottom corner in the 12th-minute to make it 2-0.

However, the little magician didn't last too long after that in the 4-2 win following a terrible-looking injury which looks like it could be very serious.

Messi forced off with arm injury v Sevilla

The worrying moment came as Messi looked to dispossess Sevilla midfielder Franco Vazquez, and as he became unbalanced he landed extremely awkwardly on his right arm.

The Nou Camp was brought to near silence and players from both teams rushed over to check on Messi, who was twitching around in considerable pain.

The Barca captain spent several minutes lying on his back with his hand over his face before being helped to the sidelines, where his arm was bandaged up.

Messi understandably couldn't continue, being replaced by Ousmane Dembele in the 26th-minute, and was showered with chants from Barca fans when he headed to the tunnel.

What now for Barca without Messi?

As you've seen, the angle at which Messi's arm collided with the ground looks very concerning, but what makes things even worse is Barcelona's upcoming schedule.

Ernesto Valverde's men play Inter Milan in the Champions League on Wednesday before facing bitter rivals and under-pressure Real Madrid in La Liga.

It's almost certain that Messi, who's already scored 12 goals this season, will miss the visit of Inter, but only time will tell if the five-time Ballon d'Or winner recovers in time for El Clasico.
