Even Barcelona fans will have to admit that Cristiano Ronaldo’s move to Juventus is a major loss to La Liga. For the past nine seasons, we’ve seen Lionel Messi and Ronaldo go head-to-head as they attempt to lead their respective Barcelona and Real Madrid sides to the title. That has resulted in two incredible El Clasico’s every season as we witness the two best players to have ever played the game do battle. But that's no longer following Cristiano’s move to Italy. In fact, the first El Clasico of the season might not even feature Messi either. That’s because on Saturday night during Barca’s 4-2 win over Sevilla, the Argentine suffered a serious looking arm injury after a nasty fall.

Messi had already provided an assist and got himself on the scoresheet when he tangled with Sevilla midfielder Franco Vazquez.

It resulted in Messi landing awkwardly on his right arm and leaving him in severe pain.

Barcelona soon confirmed the bad news: "Tests carried out on the first team player Leo Messi have confirmed that he has a fracture of the radial bone in his right arm. He will be out for approximately three weeks."

That would mean the first El Clasico since 2007 without either Messi or Ronaldo featuring.

And what happened in that match?

Well, Madrid won 1-0 thanks to a goal from Julio Baptista to take them seven points clear just days before Christmas.

The two sides that day?

Well, just take a look:

Barcelona (4-3-3): Valdes; Puyol (Zambrotta, 77), Milito, Marquez, Abidal; Xavi (Krkic, 80), Toure, Deco (Dos Santos, 56); Ronaldinho, Eto'o, Iniesta.

Real Madrid (4-3-3): Casillas; Ramos (Torres, 87), Pepe, Cannavaro, Heinze; Sneijder (Gago, 78), Diarra, Baptista; Robinho (Robben, 84), Van Nistelrooy, Raul.

Plenty of stars on show but no Messi or Ronaldo.

It’s just not an El Clasico without them.
