Manchester United were widely expected to come away empty-handed after visiting Chelsea on Saturday afternoon.

Jose Mourinho had been on the brink of losing his job for weeks leading up to a chaotic comeback win versus Newcastle United last time out, so it’s no surprise his men were given little hope up against one of the early title favourites.

But the former Blues boss showed the Stamford Bridge faithful that he’s still got it at the highest level, guiding his side to within seconds of a 2-1 victory.

The hosts equalised through Ross Barkley in the 96th minute, though, much to the delight of Maurizio Sarri, his players and his staff.

In fact, their excitement was so intense it led to an ugly clash between both camps in the dugout, with Mourinho and Chelsea analyst Marco Ianni at the centre of it all.

It’s somewhat of a shame the controversy managed to overshadow what was a genuinely gripping football match - but then again, that’s modern sport.

Mourinho looked to nullify an in-form Chelsea outfit and it proved an effective strategy as United took the lead through Anthony Martial in the 73rd minute after he cancelled out Antonio Rudiger’s opener 18 minutes earlier.

There’s a school of thought that the Red Devils were unfortunate to be pegged back so deep into stoppage time, especially when the hosts appeared to be running short of ideas in the final third.

The 2-2 draw leaves Chelsea in third place, two points of the pace-setters in Manchester City and Liverpool, while United sit way down in tenth.

However, in addition to a midweek Champions League meeting with Juventus, Mourinho has more pressing issues to worry about.

According to the Daily Mail, the Portuguese boss’ team sheet was made public ahead of their trip to Chelsea - something that’s already happened once this season.

The report reads: “The United manager was left fuming after waking up at the team's hotel to find his selected 11 accurately posted on social media and wants to know how the information got out.

“Mourinho and his squad were widely photographed travelling from Stockport railway station on Friday as they headed to the team hotel in Chelsea.

“However, only players and backroom staff were privy to the starting line-up when it was given out that day.

“It is the second time his team has been leaked before a game recently — the same happened on United's trip to West Ham last month which ended in unceremonious defeat.”

MOURINHO TAKES ACTION

In response, Mourinho has decided to launch an internal investigation to determine who is responsible for allowing such crucial information to go beyond the club walls.

Having opposition managers discover his chosen line-up before the allocated deadline is the last thing Mourinho needs during this difficult period.

So, it goes without saying, United best get to the bottom of it right away.
