Lucas Torreira has made an immediate impact at Arsenal. The Uruguay international arrived in the summer in a £26 million move from Sampdoria.Arsenal supporters have been calling out for a player of Torreira’s style for a considerable length of time and he hasn’t disappointed. The stats before Arsenal’s match against Leicester on Monday kicked off made for impressive reading. In 548 minutes with Torreira on the pitch in the Premier League this season, Arsenal have scored 20 goals and conceded just three. In 442 minutes without him, they’ve scored nine times and allowed 10 goals. The 22-year-old was featured in the analysis on Sky Sports as Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness previewed Leicester’s trip to the Emirates Stadium.

Sounes's analysis of Torreira

We say analysis, but Souness’s thoughts weren’t very insightful.

The former Newcastle United manager, often criticised by football fans for his frequent criticism of Paul Pogba, had just three words to describe Torreira: “Neat and tidy."

Souness repeated the phrase several times, offering nothing else on the midfielder.

It’s left fans convinced that the Sky Sports pundit hasn’t watched Torreira play football before.

Souness is paid by Sky Sports to offer insight on the game but it was clear he hasn’t studied the tape on Torreira.

Which is pretty confusing when the 65-year-old would have known he was covering the game in advance.

Torreira has more to his game than Souness makes out.

In the 5-1 win against Fulham before the international break, the 5’ 6” midfielder made more interceptions and ball recoveries than any Arsenal player.

He won the highest percentage of duels and only Granit Xhaka was more accurate in his passes.

Arsenal have needed a player with his bite for many years and he’s been crucial to their recent run of good form.

Entering the match against Leicester, Unai Emery’s side were on a nine-match winning streak that saw them in the Premier League’s top four before the weekend’s fixtures.

The £26m that they spent on Torreira is already looking like a great piece of business.
