Many football fans are rooting for Usain Bolt in his dream of becoming a professional.

The Jamaican earned millions of supporters during his sprinting career and the thought of him taking his talents to the football pitch appeals to lots of them.

It’s a pretty great story. From the fastest man on the planet to serial goalscorer?

At first, when Bolt was training with Borussia Dortmund, it seemed like a PR move. But that’s genuinely the hope for the 32-year-old.

Bolt eventually earned a trial with Central Coast Mariners in the A-League and this has led to a few friendly appearances.

The Manchester United fan even scored twice against Macarthur South West United.

But the latest reports to emerge about Bolt’s dream of earning a contract are pretty sad to hear.

Bolt's dream is on the rocks

The sprint legend has been excluded from Central Coast Mariners training, with the club unable to match the offer that Bolt wants.

The offer on the table is believed to be worth $150,000. Bolt wants $3 million, according to The Guardian.

The two sides are a long, long way off - Central Coast Mariners’ offer is 5 per cent of the deal Bolt wants.

In a statement, the A-League club have confirmed that Bolt will not train with them until contract talks are finalised.

They admit that a deal is unlikely to be reached unless a third party can be found to contribute to Bolt’s wishes.

“To ensure that there is no distraction to the A-League squad in preparing for this weekend’s match v Melbourne City, Usain Bolt will not attend team training this week, until and if, the club and Usain Bolt can agree to terms and formalise an arrangement,” the statement said.

“Usain Bolt’s management and the Central Coast Mariners are in conversations with external partners to find a commercial solution that suits all parties.

“Without the financial contribution of an external third party, it is unlikely that Usain Bolt and the Central Coast Mariners will agree to terms.”

That’s a real shame.
