As we have all now learned, Roman Reigns will be stepping away from the ring for a while. The Big Dog revealed on Monday Night Raw that he was diagnosed with Leukemia 11 years ago and although he quickly put it in remission on that occasion, it is now back.Reigns gave up the Universal championship and laid it down in the middle of the ring. The whole arena was with him in that moment and Twitter has been a wave of support, too.Reigns chased Brock Lesnar for the Universal title for around 18 months and to see him have to give up the title like this has been heartbreaking for the WWE Universe.Straight after Reigns' announcement, the 33-year-old's was flooded with messages of support on Twitter from his peers and it's clear what a locker room leader he is.His Shield brothers, Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose, joined him on the stage for an emotional embrace before Reigns said goodbye, but cameras caught how Reigns was greeted when he went backstage through the curtain. As you can see from the video below, Reigns was first greeted by Triple H, but then the likes of Shawn Michaels, Paul Heyman and Braun Strowman and many more comforted the Big Dog.

After Reigns broke the new to kick-off Raw, the WWE released a statement on the matter.

“Tonight on Monday Night Raw, Roman Reigns (aka Joe Anoa’i) announced that he is relinquishing the WWE Universal Championship and taking a leave of absence from WWE as he once again fights leukemia, which had been in remission since late 2008. Reigns is taking his battle with leukemia public in an effort to raise awareness and funds for research in order to advance cures for the disease.”

Everyone at GiveMeSport would like to wish Reigns all the best in his fight against the disease and we know we'll see the former four-time world champion in the Squared Circle again.
