Tahith Chong has made an exciting step in his Manchester United career this week.

Regarding as one of the most promising talents at Old Trafford, the 18-year-old has been included in the club's squad for the Champions League clash with Juventus.

The United team has been crippled with injury problems in before the game with Alexis Sanchez, Marouane Fellaini, Diogo Dalot, Jesse Lingard, Scott McTominany and Phill Jones all unavailable.

Despite the outside factors, though, it's a still a huge show of faith from Jose Mourinho to call up the young Dutchman who also appeared during the club's pre-season tour.

Only time will tell whether Chong makes his way onto the bench, with three players of the 21 spotted at the club's hotel required to miss out, but fans will have their fingers crossed.

Chong makes initial squad

Lee Grant is almost certain to be culled from the initial squad with two outfield players set to join him.

There has been plenty of excitement around United's under 23 squad and Chong has been at the centre of that, winning the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year Award this year.

That's not to mention his incredible highlights that have done the rounds on social media, making fans very excited about the prospect of his debut.

Chong's latest U23 performance

So, what exactly prompted Mourinho to call upon Chong for the Juventus clash?

Injuries aside, it must be assumed that Chong's latest performance for the U23 team played its part and a video of his individual highlights have emerged on Twitter.

The reserve team scored a 3-0 victory over Sunderland U23 with Chong bagging a brace alongside a strike from Dajour Buffonge.

Check out the video below to see both strikes and his superb all-round performance:

If there was any doubt in Mourinho's mind about Chong, this must have swung it.

Although his involvement in the Juventus fixture is yet to be discerned, the 18-year-old can feel pleased to make the initial 21 players and off the back of an impressive display at that.

If Chong can maintain his current trajectory with the reserve team, then there's every reason to expect a debut in the senior team sooner rather than later.

It's certainly promising for future cup competitions when you're in contention to make the bench for a clash with Cristiano Ronaldo's Juventus.

Of course, performances for the U23 side don't necessarily translate to the top level but Chong has shown himself to have incredible raw talent and a hunger to succeed.
