Cristiano Ronaldo returned to Old Trafford to face his former club Manchester United for only the second time since leaving the Red Devils in 2009.The Portuguese superstar, who spent six years with the English giants, started for Juventus against Jose Mourinho’s side on Tuesday evening.Ronaldo might be 33 years old but he showed at his stomping ground exactly why Juve splashed out a cool £100 million for his services in the summer. He played his part in Juve’s opener, scored by Paulo Dybala in the 17th minute. It was his cross into the box which ricocheted into the Argentine striker’s path. Dybala made no mistake from close range, dispatching the ball past David de Gea in the United goal. However, the first dramatic incident of the evening involved a pitch invader. The man in question ran on to the pitch but, as is common with live broadcasts, TV cameras did not show the incident.A few fans inside the stadium recorded the action from the stands, however, and it turns out the pitch invader had made a deliberate beeline for Ronaldo.Stewards stopped the bloke from reaching the five-time Ballon d’Or winner, although he was still able to stretch his arm out towards the legendary forward.Fan footage shows Ronaldo pausing before going over to the pitch invader, who had been wrestled to the ground by several stewards, and then giving him a high-five.He then appeared to point his thumb up to the pitch invader, who looked back to the superstar before he was dragged off the pitch.Watch the footage here…Fair play to Cristiano for showing the pitch invader some sympathy and respect. Not every player in his position would have done the same thing. He would have been forgiven if he felt unnerved by the situation. Instead, he reacted with class.

Although the man will probably be banned from Old Trafford for many years to come, and can probably expect a night in the cells as a result of his actions, he’ll always be able to say that he got a high-five from Cristiano Ronaldo.

There was a similar incident at full-time, where Ronaldo tried his best to cool down another situation involving a different pitch invader.

You can watch that incident here...

Well played, Cristiano.
