Manchester United were taught a footballing lesson by Juventus at Old Trafford.

The 1-0 scoreline flattered Jose Mourinho's side, with the Bianconeri dominating the ball from the first whistle to the last.

Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the game on 17 minutes after poor defending from Chris Smalling and Nemanja Matic.

David De Gea kept the scoreline respectable with a host of world-class saves, with his best thwarting Cristiano Ronaldo's long-range effort in the second-half.

Thankfully for United, the result shouldn't mean too much in terms of the group after Valencia's 1-1 draw away at Young Boys.

Nevertheless, the lack of quality across the pitch against Juve was way too evident.

And one man who just can't catch a break right now is Romelu Lukaku.

The Belgian hasn't scored at Old Trafford since March and seems to be unable to do anything right at the moment.

United fans were hammering the £75m striker on Twitter throughout the game and there was one moment in the first-half that typified his form right now.

Just eight minutes into the game, Lukaku tried to control the ball on the wing and after taking four attempts to get it under his spell, he played a truly woeful pass.

Yet more evidence of a played sapped of all confidence.

It seems obvious that Lukaku needs some time out of the team, but Mourinho has very few options to replace him.

With Alexis Sanchez currently injured, the boss is stuck with the Belgian.

Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial are needed out wide, with youngster Tahith Chong the only option off the bench against Juve.

Maybe a new striker in January would not only spark Lukaku into life, but prevent the current situation from repeating itself.
