Following decent results against Newcastle and Chelsea either side of the international break, the pressure is now firmly back on Jose Mourinho’s shoulders after his Manchester United side were outclassed by Juventus at Old Trafford on Tuesday night. The Italian side won by a one-goal margin but the scoreline only told part of the story.Juve bossed the Red Devils in front of their home supporters, registering 57 per cent possession over the course of the 90 minutes and recording nine attempts at goal compared to United’s four.Paulo Dybala scored the only goal of the game in the 17th minute but the 1-0 scoreline, if anything, flattered Mourinho’s side at the full-time whistle.United were lethargic, short of ideas and almost looked intimidated by their opponents. It highlighted the huge gulf in class that currently exists between the Red Devils and Europe’s best teams.United fans were all behind Mourinho heading into the game against Juventus; however, he appears to have lost some of their support after some rather eyebrow-raising comments made in the aftermath of the defeat.Per Samuel Luckhurst of the Manchester Evening News, Mourinho said when asked if United can get to Juve’s level: “To go to the Juventus level? Barcelona? Real Madrid? How can you reach that level? Manchester City level?”

Luckhurst and other United fans then pointed out that by mentioning City, Mourinho was now sounding dangerously like David Moyes.

Moyes famously infuriated the Old Trafford faithful when he said after a 3-0 defeat at the hands of City in 2014: "I think we've played a very good side and it's the sort of standard and level we need to try and aspire to get ourselves to at this moment in time.”

And now Mourinho has done the same thing.

Mourinho was then accused of doing full David Moyes when he added that he felt top spot was never a likely outcome in a group containing Juventus.

"Before the draw we knew it would be a fight with Valencia for the second place and that's what we're going to try." the under-fire Portuguese coach told reporters after the final whistle.

We would say never go full David Moyes, Jose, but it’s clearly too late for that.
