Manchester United produced a spirited performance at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

Completely outplayed in the first half, Jose Mourinho's side almost wrapped up all three points but were denied by a stoppage time Ross Barkley equaliser.

Antonio Rudiger headed Chelsea in front in the 21st minute before Anthony Martial turned the game on its head with a brilliant second-half brace.

Chelsea coach Marco Ianni sparked an unsavoury scuffle with Mourinho after Barkley equalised deep into stoppage time.

According to The Sun, Mourinho gave his players a "rousing speech" in the dressing room straight after the 2-2 draw.

The former Chelsea boss was reportedly calm and singled out two of his Man United players for special praise.

Anthony Martial and Victor Lindelof have both struggled under Mourinho at Old Trafford -  but they were both brilliant at Stamford Bridge.

An Old Trafford insider told The Sun: “Jose was very calm after the bust-up and told them this was the team which got us second last season, playing like that.

“He was very animated towards Martial and Lindelof, praising them for all their good work throughout the game.

“He said there was no reason they still couldn't repeat last season's finish playing like that and was delighted.”

The Red Devils followed up their impressive showing against Chelsea with a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Juventus.

Signed for £35m, Lindelof really struggled in his maiden season but produced another superb performance at centre-back in the Champions League.

Man United legend Gary Neville praised the Swedish defender on Twitter.

Mourinho suggested his side were competing for second place in their group.

"We played against one of the biggest - really, biggest - candidates to win the Champions League," said Mourinho after the 1-0 defeat.

"Since the draw, we knew it would be a fight with Valencia for the second position and that's what we are going to try."
