Backstage news on Elias' sudden face-turn on Monday Night Raw

This week's Monday Night Raw was an especially turbulent episode and the tone was set from the very beginning.

Of course, Roman Reigns would open the show by revealing that he has to leave the WWE as he battles Leukemia for the second time in his life and he relinquished the Universal title in the process.

Elsewhere, Dean Ambrose would execute one of the most shocking heel turns of all-time as he turned on his Shield brother Seth Rollins just moments after the duo captured the Raw Tag Team titles.

Although the Lunatic Fringe had been expected to turn at some point and reports suggest that was originally earmarked for Survivor Series, many WWE fans were shocked to see it happen on the night of Reigns' announcement and straight after a title win.

Braun Strowman underwent a character change of his own several weeks ago when the red-hot Monster Among Men aligned himself with Drew McIntyre and Dolph Ziggler in a sudden heel turn to battle The Shield.

While it seemed strange to begin with, it seems that Reigns' sudden exit from the company has left a void at the top for a babyface and Strowman has quickly reverted back to that role. It seems as though McIntyre is his opponent in the immediate future.

However, Strowman wasn't the only man to change to the good side on Monday night as Elias also seemed to turn a corner with acting general manager Baron Corbin serving as his foe.

According to PWInsider, the WWE was always planning to make Elias a babyface due to his popularity with the audience, but they have accelerated the process because of Reigns' leave of absence.

That's understandable, especially when you look at the fact that Seth Rollins is really the only top babyface on Raw now that the likes of Drew McIntyre, Bobby Lashley and Dean Ambrose are all on the dark side and Finn Balor wallowing down the card.

Elias' ability as a heel will be missed, though, as evidenced by the nuclear heat he garnered in Toronto a few weeks ago.

But, like Strowman, the WWE Universe are more than ready to cheer for Elias so now it's down to WWE creative to push him in the right direction.
