Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku has failed to find the net in each of his last eight outings.

The Belgian frontman, signed for £75m from Everton, looked low on confidence during Tuesday night's 1-0 defeat to Juventus.

Jose Mourinho is backing Lukaku to rediscover his goalscoring form.

"He is not linking the game well with the team," said Mourinho after the Juventus defeat. "But he is our striker and he is a good striker we believe in.

"Romelu is a hard-working guy and a good professional. One day the goals will arrive and the confidence will be back."

There have been rumours that Lukaku could be dropped for Sunday's Premier League clash against Everton.

Berbatov weighs in

Former Man United striker Dimitar Berbatov has spoken about Lukaku's poor form - and has a theory about his inability to find the back of the net.

Berbatov told Betfair: "There has been a lot of criticism for Romelu Lukaku since the game but you'll never catch me having a go at a fellow striker. I know how difficult it is.

"I remember when I was on a bad run at United when I hadn't scored for seven or eight games, but then scored five [against Blackburn] in one game! It happens to everyone.

"I know he's not scored for eight games, but I don't think the criticism of Lukaku is fair. As Jose Mourinho said, he's working very hard for the team, but this might actually be working against the striker.

"He wants to impress so badly that he is doing too much, and not doing the simple things like getting into the box.

"He is probably over complicating things; you don't want to see him popping up at left-back as he did on Tuesday."

Berbatov is spot on. The retired Bulgarian striker is a man who knows what he's talking about when it comes to leading the line at Old Trafford.

It's true that Lukaku hasn't been getting into the right positions to score recently - he failed to register a single shot against Juventus.

Will Lukaku heed Berbatov's advice when United host Everton on Sunday afternoon?
