Barcelona's Marc-Andre ter Stegen names the two goalkeepers he thinks are 'perfect'

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has turned into one of the world’s finest goalkeepers at Barcelona.

The German shot-stopper arrived in Spain from Borussia Monchengladbach and initially had to settle for a place behind Claudio Bravo in the pecking order.

However, Ter Stegen quickly became first choice, with Bravo moving to Manchester City in the summer of 2016.

Ever since, Barca have reaped the benefits of having arguably their finest goalkeeper in their modern history.

His two double saves in the 4-2 win over Sevilla were a reminder of just how important he is to the team.

Lionel Messi and Sergio Busquets are the only players who are more crucial to the Blaugrana than the German.

The modern game is littered with world-class goalkeepers and Ter Stegen explained in an interview the two he believes are close to perfecting his trade.

“Each goalkeeper is different and no style can be better than another,” he said.

“Of course, our first job is to stop balls, but the philosophy here includes playing with our feet.

“In LaLiga Santander we have some of the world’s best goalkeepers and they all have their own style.

“For me, [Jan] Oblak is the perfect goalkeeper for Atletico Madrid and Ederson is the same for Manchester City.”

They’re two very different goalkeepers, but each brilliant.

Oblak’s game is much more focused on his ridiculous shot-stopping ability and command of his area, while Ederson’s footwork is what really sets him apart from the rest.

The Brazilian and Ter Stegen are the two best around with the ball at their feet and it allows Barca and City to play the expansive game they crave.

Barca host Real Madrid on the weekend in El Clasico and they will likely need another top performance from their German keeper to get a result.
