Joe Gomez knows what would happen if himself, Van Dijk, Mane and Salah had a race

Joe Gomez has been a revelation for Liverpool so far this season.

The former Charlton defender has formed a solid partnership at the back with Virgil van Dijk as Liverpool have enjoyed an unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign.

His performances mean he has quickly established himself as one of the most all-round defenders in England's top tier.

Not only is he strong in the air and good with the ball at his feet, he is also extremely quick.

The 21-year-old proved that once again on Wednesday night when he showed electric pace to snuff out a Red Star attack.

According to the Daily Mail, Gomez has actually reached the fastest speed among Liverpool players this season at 21.6mph.

But is really he the quickest player at Liverpool?

The Reds have a number of extremely fast players in their ranks.

Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are viewed as two of the fastest players in the Premier League, let alone Liverpool.

And Gomez's defensive partner, Van Dijk, has also earned plaudits for his speed.

Gomez gave an interview to the Mail where he answered what would happen if the four had a race.

"Virgil van Dijk is quick and he has hit some good speeds, too," Gomez said.

"Obviously Mo Salah and Sadio Mane are fast. Mo and Virgil have bantered about having a race but I think a few of us would fancy ourselves. Not that the sports science team would allow it!

"I think over the first 10 yards me and Virgil would be looking at Sadio and Mo’s backs. But we may claw some back towards the end."

So, it seems as if Gomez thinks Salah and Mane would have the edge over himself and Van Dijk in a race.

However, based on the athleticism Gomez has shown in a Liverpool shirt in recent months, some fans may think otherwise.

Who do you think would win in a race between Mane, Salah, Van Dijk and Gomez? Have your say by leaving a comment below.
