Liverpool's eight fastest players so far this season have been revealed

Liverpool v Paris Saint-Germain - UEFA Champions League Group C

Liverpool are flying high so far this season.

Jurgen Klopp has got Liverpool playing some fantastic football and their position in the Premier League table is reflective of how impressive they have been.

They are currently second in the Premier League, having accumulated 23 points and gone unbeaten in their opening nine games.

A key ingredient for their success is the speed that their players possess.

Jurgen Klopp's style of football requires each and every one of his players to be able to cover ground at the shortest time possible.

That is why the likes of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah have been able to be a success in a red shirt under the German manager.

But who exactly is the fastest Liverpool player in the team?

Many fans would presume that particular title goes to either Mane or Salah.

But according to the Daily Mail, neither have been Liverpool's fastest player so far this season.

Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk have been Liverpool's quickest players this season

In fact, it is 21-year-old Joe Gomez who has been their quickest player, having been clocked at 21.6mph.

That time also means he's been the second quickest defender in the Premier League, only behind Terence Kongolo of Huddersfield.

Surprisingly, Gomez's partner in defence, Virgil Van Dijk, is second quickest after recording a sprint speed of 21.5mph.

Mane is clocked as Liverpool's third fastest player at 21.4mph, while Salah is all the way done in sixth.

View the whole list below:

1) Joe Gomez - 21.6mph

2) Virgil van Dijk - 21.5mph

3) Sadio Mane - 21.4mph

Sadio Mane has only been Liverpool's third quickest player, with Salah all the way down in sixth

4) Trent Alexander-Arnold - 21.1mph

5) Andy Robertson - 21mph

6=) Mo Salah - 20.9mph

6=) Roberto Firmino - 20.9mph

8) Georginio Wijnaldum - 20.7mph

Very interesting.

Many consider Salah to be one of the fastest players in the Premier League, let alone Liverpool, but he's only recorded the sixth quickest speed among Reds players this season.

Very few would have expected that Gomez or Van Dijk were actually quicker than Mane, either.

It seems football fans need to start giving the defensive pair more credit not only for their defensive ability, but for their speed as well.
